Are Dental Implants Worth the Money?

Dental implants are often recommended by dentists as one of the premier options for people who are missing teeth. However, as anyone who’s actually looked into tooth replacement will tell you, they’re also one of the priciest.

While exact prices vary, dental implants are routinely more expensive than both dentures and bridges, which leads some patients to wonder whether they’re worth the cost. As it turns out, they absolutely are!

Here are a few reasons why dental implants cost as much as they do, and why they’re worth the investment.

Stopping Bone Loss

Your body is incredibly adept at sending its resources where they’re most needed. Once you lose a tooth, your body will quickly decide to stop sending nutrients to the jaw, causing it to shrink.

This can cause several significant effects on how you look, giving your face less support and leading to premature aging.

Dentures and bridges don’t do anything to address this issue, but dental implants stimulate the jawbone, stopping the process of atrophy. This is something that they can offer you that other tooth replacement options can’t.

They’ll Stick Around

For the most part, dentures and bridges last for around 10 years—15 if you’re lucky, maybe. This is an incredible amount of time, but that’s nothing compared to dental implants.

Studies have shown that 95% of dental implants are successful at 20 years, with many of them lasting as long as 30 if maintained well. That means you can reasonably expect a dental implant to last twice as long as other tooth replacement options.

They’ll Stand Strong

Dentures and bridges both look incredible, but they are a little bit lacking in support. Dental implants, on the other hand, are given stability by their connection to the jawbone.

As a result, dental implants can give you a much stronger bite than other tooth replacement options. In fact, one study found that dentures restored around 30% of a person’s original bite force, while dental implants restored closer to 70%.

Dental implants cost a bit more, but you only deserve the best. If you’re looking for a way to replace a missing tooth that is second to none, dental implants are it!
